ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
Abstracts for the 59th ESCVS International Congress
Abstracts for the 59th ESCVS Annual Congress can only be submitted
electronically. Authors are invited to log in first, and then to submit their abstracts
following the instructions of the electronic submission form accessible
from the above link. An acknowledgement of receipt of your submission will
be sent to your e-mail address after the completed submission. Please consider that
only completed submissions will enter the review process and all incomplete drafts
will be deleted from the system.
The material must not have been published or presented at
any major meeting before. Abstract submissions will be accepted from November
5, 2009. Original contributions on any of the topics of the congress are welcome.

EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR ALL ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
Authors are invited to log in first, and then submit their abstracts
following the instructions of the electronic submission form. An acknowledgement
of receipt of your submission will be sent to your e-mail address after the completed
submission. If you do not receive any confirmation, your submission was probably
incomplete and needs to be re-submitted.
Editorial guidelines for abstract submission:
- The abstract language is English
- The text should not exceed 400 words. The use of tables or figures is not
allowed
- The abstract must consist of four paragraphs labeled OBJECTIVE, METHODS,
RESULTS, CONCLUSIONS
- The text and the title must be free from abbreviations, except those commonly
used (e.g. LVEF, CABG, VSD, ASD etc. for the cardiac abstract and CEA, EVAR,
TIA, CAS etc. for the vascular abstract). It should concisely address the problem
and the purpose of the study (OBJECTIVE); how the study was performed (METHODS);
the main findings with numerical data and statistical significance (RESULTS);
and the principal conclusions drawn from the study (CONCLUSIONS)
- The title of the abstract must be printed in CAPITAL LETTERS; Please enter
the FIRST NAME in full, followed by the LAST NAME, for each author without abbreviations
(e.g. John Smith , and NOT J. Smith). There should be no more than 8 authors.
- Since the abstracts will be judged anonymously, the text must not reveal
the institutional affiliation.
- Mark the category which describes best the subject of your abstract.
- Please mark the category on the basis of the categories listed (Categories:
Cardiac Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery).
Then select the most appropriate topic related to your abstract. Finally, indicate
the type of presentation: oral, poster or video presentation.
ESCVS gives the opportunity to apply for
2 Young Surgeon Awards (ESCVS Young Cardiac Surgeon Award, ESCVS
Young Vascular Surgeon Award). Competition for these prizes is limited to authors
< 36 years old. Each recipient will be awarded 1000 Euros.
ESCVS YOUNG VASCULAR SURGEON PRIZE GUIDELINES

Applicants must be under 36 years of age. If they are not members, they
will have to be presented by a member of the ESCVS. The applicant should send
per e-mail to the General Secretariat, together with the abstract, a copy of an
official document attesting his/her age and provide a letter of introduction of
the sponsoring member if no co-author is a member.

The subject of the paper to be presented should be related to Vascular or
Endovascular Surgery including basic research, laboratory investigations,
epidemiological studies or clinical works.

The work must be original and the applicant should be the principal author. It
must be written and presented in English.

Authors competing for either Award MUST provide the General Secretariat (escvs.secretariat@gmail.com)
an electronic copy of the full manuscript of their abstract (via email) at least
one month prior to the beginning of the Congress. Moreover, the recipient of
each award MUST submit the full manuscript for publication in the Interactive
CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery journal. Please visit the related

The work will be presented in a special session of the congress entitled “ESCVS
Vascular Young Surgeon Prize”. A selection Committee, including the President
Elect, the President Elect or the Vice-President of the Society, will chair the
session.

The Committee will nominate the winner of the prize after reading the abstract
and hearing the presentation of the paper during the special session. The
decision of the Committee will then be made public and the presentation of the
winner will take place.

The presentation of the winner will take place during the Gala Dinner, where the
winner will be invited.

Non-adherence to any of the above-mentioned conditions will exclude the
applicant from the competition.

The ESCVS Vascular Young Surgeon Prize award consists in a grant of Eur
1,000.00 and a special diploma.
ESCVS YOUNG CARDIAC SURGEON PRIZE
GUIDELINES

Applicants must be under 36 years of age. If they are not members, they
will have to be presented by a member of the ESCVS. The applicant should send

official document attesting his/her age and provide a letter of introduction of

The subject must be original research / clinical work, principally in the field
of Cardiac Surgery, but it may also deal with Cardiology or Thoracic Surgery.
It must be the first time the work is presented or published in any
national/international meeting or journal

The Selection Committee for each prize, elected by the Executive Committee of
the ESCVS, always includes the President or one of the Vice-Presidents and the
Secretary General or Assistant Secretary of the ESCVS.

The applicants selected for participation in the competition will have to
present personally their own paper during the special Competition Session.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORAL PRESENTATION
Only Power Point presentations will be allowed. Be sure to bring
your presentation on a CD Rom; floppy disks are discouraged; the use of personal
lap-tops is not allowed. The time allocated for oral presentations will be
7 minutes + 3 minutes of discussion. Material for presentation
will be uploaded in the Preview Room at least 2 hours before the presentation. We
encourage you to check your presentation in the Preview Room well in advance.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ELECTRONIC POSTER PRESENTATION

E-POSTER PRESENTATIONS
As per e-mail communications sent to all corresponding authors, please be advised
that No actual poster will be on display on boards, but authors
will have 3 minutes at disposal for a short oral presentation, with 3 jpg slides
with the following technical features:
- format – JPG
- resolution – 96 dpi
- width: 1024 pixels, height: 675 pixels
- orientation: horizontal
- recommended font size: 12pt
There will be one dedicated room equipped with a screen, projector
and computer, supervised by technical staff. We would like to remind you that the
deadline for sending e-poster presentation files expires on January 15, 2010. Should
you have any problems with JPG files creation please send your posters as Power
Point slides. They will then be converted to demanded file. In case of any technical
problems or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the congress secretariat.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIDEO PRESENTATION
The maximum duration of the video must be 10 minutes.
The video presentation must consist of a written abstract, to be submitted through
the abstract submission system selecting the correspondent category (video), plus
a copy of the video on a CD/DVD, that should be sent along with a short written
summary to the ESCVS Scientific Secretariat:
